As the name suggests, Tous les Jours is a French cafe and bakery. Overall a great place to work or just chill and read. I started with my kindle while enjoying a pastry and moved on to my laptop to do some work.
The pastries at Tous les Jours, one of the great things left over after the French retreat from Vietnam!
The pastries make a strong case to drop by anytime. They were delicious, especially the Cranberry Bread, which was a flakey, croissant-esque roll, loaded with cranberries! After some chill morning reading, I went out to watch the Canucks game and then returned to actually get some work done. I tried the chocolate banana bread my second time around (yes, that’s right, I doubled up on the pastries!), which unfortunately was a whole lot of bread and not a lot of anything else. Both were under D25,000 though so good value.
Cranberry Bread and reading, so chill, great morning!
Only issue was when a lady with four kids showed up. They were running around on the benches and screaming in highest pitches I’ve ever heard. Not sure if it’s normal to let your kids do this in Vietnam… She just let them go at it as if this was her living room or personal playground, oblivious to the people around her. So I had to take matters into my own hands.
First I tried the “New York City dirty look” approach. Caught her eye, she didn’t budge. The audacity! Looks like I’m going to have to escalate and confront! So I went in there and tried to ask her to keep the kids quiet as other people were trying to work. We do come to cafes for a reason after all. She didn’t seem to understand, although I can’t image what else she thought I’d be asking… Especially after the dirty looks! The nerves were clearly strong in this one. I’m not proud of it, but I was going to have to play dirty. Only way to do this was to get the barista involved. The kids were then gone in no time, victory was mine!
Able to resume my work, the smooth blend of french pastries and coffee helped me get a good amount of work done. It really is a great place for chilling and working, definitely plan on coming back!
