Well decorated coffee shop, I did enjoy the murals. They also had a shady outdoor patio which was well suited for working as it offered an escape from the potentially loud indoor conversations and smoking (yes, that is allowed in some places). The wifi was still good out there, the city sounds weren't too bad, and offered it the occasional people watching break. Overall though, I would rather come here for a friends hangout or coffee break rather than working.
food and drinks :
The coffee was good and they had real milk, not just the standard Viet condensed milk. This enabled them to make the customary espresso drinks although they were a little on the short side. No food, not even a pastry, definite drawback if you plan on working for a while.
I was actually just thinking that the coffee was reasonably priced, from D30,000 to D45,000,depending on your drink, until I ordered and they slapped me with a 20% service charge. Part of me thinks it was just because I was a westerner but I couldn't see other receipts to verify this claim. My D35,000 cappuccino came out to D42,000, not a huge deal but I don't like it.
Thuc Coffee gave me good impressions coming in due to its nice decor and seemingly low coffee prices. A few moments in though, I caught the smell of cigarette smoke inside. They then added a 20% service charge on my drink. Quite a shame because it is a nice shop, the tables are large enough to comfortably work, and the coffee is quite good. The outdoor patio was the best working spot but it didn’t have any outlets. Seeing as I unfortunately came in with less than 30% battery, I barely finished my coffee before having to carry on.
Would I stop in again for a coffee? Totally, but Ho Chi Minh City has a plethora of good coffee places that are easy to stumble upon so there’s no need to go out of my way to come here for it.
Grab a coffee if you’re in the area, enjoy the mural, and then carry on.
Thuc Coffee, well decorated, nice ambiance, but smokey and adds a service charge
